Planespotting at Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok Airport (HKG)

Earlier this month I passed thru the beautiful Chek Lap Kok Airport at Hong Kong. This was my first time in Hong Kong and that too I was just passing thru, changing flights from my extra-long Chicago (ORD) – Hong Kong (HKG) to a Hong Kong – Jakarta, Indonesia (CGK) flight. The airport right off the bat comes off as impressive. It is large, bright, with wide mezzanines – no narrow claustrophobic passages (here’s looking at you Washington Dulles…).

Getting from my gate to the next was straightforward too – no multiple layers of security and passport checks (here’s looking at you Zurich…). I immediately went up the lounge area which has multiple lounges and headed to the United lounge. The lounges are on an upper level with an excellent view of the gates and the airport operations. I saw some beautiful aircraft pulling in and out from multiple airlines, so after freshening up from my long flight and putting some coffee and food into me, I headed back down to walk around and take some pictures. Here are a few good ones I got.

  1. I’ll be passing Hong Kong on the way to Saigon next month on F. Will have approx 3 hours layover to kill. As transit passenger which lounge would you recommend?

  2. What did you think of the United lounge. I was at at the Thai Lounge in May and I thought it was pretty nice, nicer than I though the United lounge would be.

  3. @Tiara, which airline are you flying? Access to the lounge will depend upon that.

@Chris, to with THAI ;). The United lounge was actually not bad at all. Spacious, bright and lots of food and drink options.
