Emirates and Etihad are coming to DC!
Emirates is one of the best airlines in the world – see my earlier review of Emirates. They and their main rival Etihad have just announced non-stop daily service from its hub in Dubai to Washington, DC (DXB-IAD). This is great news. The third major middle-east airline – Qatar, already operates a daily non-stop to DC. Good to see these great airlines come to IAD. This is also good competition for United as it already has non-stop service to Dubai and one-stop to Abu Dhabi (AUH), Etihad’s hub, and Doha (DOH), Qatar’s hub.
Announcement on airlineroute.net:
Emirates on Thursday (15MAR12) announced the launch of Dubai – Washington Dullesservice, with 3-class Boeing 777-300ER (with First Class Suite) operating on daily basis, effective 12SEP12.
Its rival ETIHAD few weeks ago announced its intention to operate Abu Dhabi – Washington Dulles service from 31MAR13.
Schedule:
EK231 DXB0220 – 0850IAD 77W D
EK232 IAD1055 – 0800+1DXB 77W D

Yeah… I guess United will have a really tough time competing with these Gulf Carriers….
Why is DXB such a hot destiantion from IAD. I don’t get it. What about SFO? Why can’t Etiahd or United operate from SFO for DXB
United does not offer one stop service to Abu Dhabi, you may be thinking of the one stop flight to Bahrain that stops in Kuwait.
Actually I made an error. United flies to Bahrain (BAH) via Kuwait (KWI) and Doha (DOH) via Dubai (DXB). It does not fly to Abu Dhabi. Thanks for the catch.
