Don’t apply for the Continental OnePass Plus card
Most bloggers are writing obituaries for the Continental OnePass Plus Card and advising you to apply for the Continental OnePass Plus Card soon. Well, I beg to disagree. From my limited understanding, my advice in general is: don’t apply for it. Unless
- You have a targeted offer for 50K signup bonus.
- You have already got your 50K signup bonus from the United Explorer Card and wouldn’t mind a credit hit.
- You want to keep a Continental OnePass Plus card as a memoir and don’t mind losing out on 20K signup bonus.
Other than that here’s why you shouldn’t apply for this card:

“United MileagePlus Explorer cardmembers will only receive one 50,000 bonus miles award if they apply for both the United Explorer Card and the Continental OnePass Plus Card after 7/19/2011”
When you can easily get 50K bonus miles by applying for the Explorer card, why settle for only 25K bonus miles by applying for the OnePass Plus Card?
Granted, the terms and conditions can change. However, Chase has been extremely stingy with sign-up bonuses and this doesn’t seem worth the risk to me.
Am I missing anything? Let me know. Now, where did I keep my body armor?

I was targeted and approved for the CO OnePass 50K offer 2 weeks ago. Now, my question is – when to apply for the United 50k offer?
@Angelina. Not now. The terms and conditions of the united 50K offer state that you can’t get the bonus if you have applied for the OnePass card after 7/19/2011.
My CO One Pass renewal will be April 1st. 1)- Do I apply for the United Explorer before the Merger (March 3rd) and once approved cancel my CO One Pass or 2)- Do I wait to see what happens after the merger with regard to retention bonus?
I only want to keep one card and possibly get the “up to 40k bonus offer” and I have not been targeted for any 50k offers. Thanks

Finally someone who agrees with me! It’s a real bummer that the T&C were changed to exclude earning both bonuses, but this change was made months ago and widely reported at the time. I’m surprised how quickly we all forgot.

@sruly some people have got signup bonuses for both. The key is to apply for the Explorer card first then the OnePass Card. But there isnt mch time for that now. It would be a big gamble.
